A study led by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco was conducted to see if there was an association with marijuana use and caloric intake, BMI and increase cardiovascular risk factors. In 3617 young adults participated in this study. The results were quite astonishing heavy cannabis use was directly correlated with higher caloric intake. Marijuana, however, was not associated with atherosclerosis, blood pressure, or high levels of triglycerides. The researchers noticed however that heavy alcohol consumption and heavy use of cannabis positively associated with high cardiovascular risk factors.
