Based on my own personal experiences and others I have talked to I have noticed that many people do not dream when they smoke marijuana. Recently, one of the members of our team quit smoking and noticed a strange anomaly.
He began to have extremely odd dreams. One of the dreams was of him turning into a dragon and battling Voldemort a character from Harry Potter. The others were just as strange, and for 2 to 3 weeks he continued to have nightly weird dreams. Eventually, the intensity of his dreams subsided, but as his dreams quelled my curiosity grew. I decided to do a tad bit of research (a quick google search) on the matter.
Low and behold this is a well-documented withdrawal symptom from smoking cessation, and was actively talked about in forums, blogs, and detox websites. Although, the cause for these flood of vivid dreams has not been researched I wanted to test it out for myself. I quit smoking and had some dreams that my friends double-crossed me, that my dog could fly, and even a dream where I smoked with Justin Bieber.
I went into this experiment with a positive attitude and looked forward to dreaming every night. It was almost like a psychedelic trip every time I slept, literally anything could happen. After a week though my dreams subsided and I resumed my smoking.
My recommendation for those who stop smoking is to mentally prepare yourself for these dreams and look at them in a positive light. Obviously, some dreams can be terrifying, but more times than not I had some pretty crazy dreams that I really enjoyed. It can actually be a fun part of your quitting process, and I would even go as far as to say you should write down your dreams so you can read the absurdity later. However,
If a marijuana user feels the need to undergo drug addiction counseling, then he or she should go by all means.
There is no harm in getting help when you quit smoking.
Dream On or Not
The Weed Street Journal
I’m on day 6 since quiting. I began having constant and vivid dreams on day 3. I am so sleepy all the time. I’ve noticed that some of my dreams are about some of the biggest losses I have had in my life. I’ve never experienced anything like this. I wish I could hibernate a while. I’m experiencing the kind of heavy sleep in which you can barely lift your limbs. However, I am so glad that I have quit after 20 years of smoking.
I been smoking herb, constantly for the past 3 years, I’ve recently stopped. . Because my high wasn’t the same, I too had a crazy dream. I was trying to pick up a sack .. when I suddenly came across Robert Marley, I was so stoked . I couldn’t believe. I was burning with a legend. .. so vivid . I busted out my phone ..took some pictures . Because that was an opportunity no one will ever come across. I feel enlighten. That dream was peaceful ♡
Same here! My dreams have all been about things I have lost. I have been a heavy smoker for 6 years, and I am on my 3rd day of quitting. Last night I woke up almost a dozen times, and each time after an intense dream/nightmare. I almost never used to wake up while I slept.
Strange shit…
I haven’t quit just ran out I m in a remote location so its hard sometimes to find anything i m on day 9 and day 3 through now have been insane i wake up after each dream fall back asleep then dream a completely different dream last night i had 5 dreams i m talking in my sleep physical moving around sitting up and turning the other way in bed so i m laying opposite of my spouse she thinks it funny but i had a dream were i was in a knife fight and she was at the losing end of it i pushed her out of bed thinking i was pushing some dude in a bar lol
everybody if you do quit or run out for an extended amount of time just be ready for a trip

Yeah 2 years ago I quit smoking for 6 months. The first month of the quiting I had the most insane dreams that were weirder and scarier than any movie. I can still remember them vividly to this day. Sometimes I would wake up in a panic from them and be too afraid to go back to sleep. When I do smoke weed, I do dream, but they make sense and they are sometimes as boring as eating a bowl of cereal. I have thought about this dream thing every time I have quit smoking weed and have attributed it to a few factors. Weed adds warmth, love, and rationale to ones subconsious thoughts, like a blanket or rose colored lenses. When you are not seeing the world through rose-colored lenses or under the protection of a warm blanket, then one’s subconsiousness doesn’t exactly produce the most pleasant thoughts. Also your brain is sponging up and storing way more information without the short-term memory reducing effectsTHC, so what is going on is the brain is storing up lots of thoughts and information, and without the rose-colored filter, making them real and dark. So you have lots of dark and weird thoughts piled in their. And because you are not smoking weed, you are not living your daily life analyzing situations in a psychoanalytic manner (which potheads usually do) so you are not even dealing with your subconsious during the waking hours. And what does your brain do to process and organize this information? It makes you deal with it while you sleep. And the results are scary and crazy. And because one’s short term memory is much better you end up remembering these dreams so vivdly, which makes it worse.
I just woke up from a very bad dream that scared the crap out of me. I have mentioned to co workers many times that over the years when I do not smoke weed I would have very vivid and wild dreams that I attributed to not smoking but could not be sure. I thought that maybe it was a coinsedince. After this dream tonight that woke me up screaming I decided to Google it and lo and behold I am this site. I suppose I am glad to see that others have the same “problem” but wish that there was some sort of answer instead of returning to smoking. I have not smoked for 6 weeks and they seem to be getting more intense. Any ideas?
I’m 23 and even after one day of not smoking habitually for a couple years, my dreams became immensely more vivid. I’ve come to look forward to these experiences which has inspired me to log my dreams in a book. It’s awesome. Dreams can be some of the most exciting highs
I haven’t smoked weed in two weeks because I just moved to a new city and haven’t been able to find any dealers in town. For the past three days, I have been having the most intense realistic dreams. I wake up feeling so freaked out. Thank god that I’m going back to my hometown tomorrow so I’ll be blazin’ up for you guys. Thank you!
Here’s a theory. One does dream when they are smoking, but tend to forget them very quickly, almost immediately. When they quit and remember their dreams again, some of these seem really disturbing, but then in a few days or weeks they don’t seem so bad. Could it be that dreams always range from boring to vivid and frightening, but when one smokes and forget they no longer need the ability to deal with all that, so when they start being aware of the dreams some dreams seem especially scary, but in time one adjusts again to the nature of dreams.
First, let me say that I’m an everyday smoker. Anyway, I have been traveling for the past few weeks, and in the process, developed a sinus cold. I decided to stop smoking until I got better (because feeling ill is no fun, especially on the road). Well, It’s been 6 days since my last puff, and I have to say that the only possible withdrawal symptom that I’ve noticed is lucid dreaming. It’s bizarre. None have been terrifying or scary, but they are so vivid, that I can remember even minor details, as if these “experiences” really happened. I wake up several times a night, trying to determine if I have actually been sleeping, or if I’ve just been laying there half-awake, thinking these thoughts. Last night, I spent nearly two hours on a dream about assembling a piece of furniture without instructions. The best way I can describe it is as a puzzle. I would try this bolt and that piece of lumber, but it never seemed right. I woke up frustrated as hell. On the plus side, I nearly had my first nocturnal ejaculation since my teens, when a few hours later, my dreaming led me to a very realistic encounter with a rather frisky girl. Unfortunately, I woke up just before the big “o”. Haha. Anyway, I’m not sure if these dreams are caused by quiting weed, or just what non-smokers experience normally. Maybe, I’ve been smoking regularly for so long, that I forgot what dreaming was actually like:)
You do NOT have WITHDRAWAL from Marijuana anyone who is at all educated on the subject knows that. It is not PHYSICALLY addicting although it is habit forming, like anything else can be. I have noticed my dreams are more vivid the less I smoke, and that is because Marijuana effects SEROTONIN in your brain. Serotonin effects sleep and dreams. When you stop smoking your body produces more Serotonin than usual because the THC in Marijuana no longer is supplying your body with excess serotonin. Its the same as when you stop taking herbal supplements like 5-htp or are coming off NASTY, HORRIBLE, SSRIs.
Yes same thing here, quit on Friday have been ok for 3 days now the most weird real seeming strong dreams of lost friends and times gone by, mad party’s, skateboarding as in my youth although some do have a sinister side ,kinda wieRd always wake up scared and with a headache. Not kool.
Same thing has happened to me before when I have been on Holliday and not smoked or give up fro bein Ill I do know it’s is defo from stopping smoking weed. No question about that.
I don’t know why though strange, I presume it’s some part of my brain re acting somehow. The poster above who talked aout rose glasses and warm blankets seems to be correct I think.
I do not enjo these dreams I have to say. They are to real.:/
day seven here and i love the dreams feels like im getting shit done even when i sleep its great!!!!
Hello my name is Robby I’m a 22 yr old male. I have quit smoking herb before but this is the longest I’ve gone for a few years now (about 1 month now.) I have had some of the craziest dreams I’ve ever had and its been one crazy experience. I’ve also probably had the most dreams I’ve ever had in the past month that I’ve had probably in the past 2-3 years. Some of these dreams can be so amazing and fun and even sexual and I wake up regretting that I have woken up and trying to go back to sleep as soon as possible so I can hopefully return back to the same dream (unfortunately, I never do.) The other have been very odd and sometimes very scary that when I do wake up I wake up happy and I’m glad that it was only a dream and have to wait a minute or two before I go back to sleep because I’m scared I’ll go back to the same dream! I’m glad that I’m not the only one that has experienced these crazy dreams and that I’m not alone! Thanks for the tip about writing these experiences down and I have begun doing so. Thank you for writing this blog I appreciate you taking the time out to do some research so people like me can somewhat understand why we are having these dreams!
I just wrote down my whole dream for you and hit submit without leaving an email address and it erased my WHOLE story!!!!!!!!!
I have been having crazy dreams since my 3rd week off the ganja
Short version: I was in public school again ( but everyone was like 19) and my town was flooded.. I walked home with girl I never talked to and was hoping she would come back to my house with me.. then all of a sudden she turns around and walks away ( in a flood). I get home and my uncles headed out my front door and asks ” hows the weather?” as I’m walking through a foot of water! I SHOULD BE WRITING BOOKS
Also been having the weird dreams…
I’ve been referring to them as reality dreams…most have been starting from what I’ve just been doing…eg being out in a bar/club then my dream takes me here to “carry on the night”!
One thing that really tripped me out (after 1 week of no smoking) was when I dreamt I saw an old work colleague at the party I was at in the night before in Thailand, I woke up thinking I had actually seen the guy but it was just a dream… That morning I received an email from the same ex colleague (not spoken to in 2 years) asking where to go stay etc in Thailand! As you can imagine this really confused me..
But all in all just vivid dreams..I’ve since had a smoke and the weird dreams stop and have quit again, lo and behold they’ve returned..
Although I do quite enjoy some of them 😉
I quite 8 days ago and have had really stressful dreams at times. Although one was me hangin with Snoop dogg, most have been upsetting. Like dreams of the apocalypse, where I woke up, then went back into the same dream, then woke up, then went back into the same dream for a third time. I was too disturbed to try for a fourth, which I believe would have happened. I normally don’t remember my dreams at all when smoking weed. I haven’t had dreams like this since I was a kid, but these are more elaborate and vivid than my childhood dreams….
At one point when I didn’t smoke, many years ago, I was able to control some dreams, by lucid dreaming. The way I was able to achieve this was, by asking myself many times throughout the day whether I was dreaming. Which in turn, translated into me asking the same questions in my dreams. Then poof, like magic, I would become the master of my dream world or wake up. I wonder if this may help some people dealing with this issue or other dream problems.. I, unfortunately, am very out of practice and the intensity of these dreams makes me question how possible this is for me..?
Truth is, I like the dreams, just not the stress from the type I am having! I wonder what tonight holds in store for me. Good luck to others
I quit smoking for about a week, and wow has it got me dreaming . I swear i wake up and i could almost be sure i had a supermodel gf naked right next to me. Other nights it seems i have dreams about every little thing. Last night it was about some fools trying to steal my car, Call me crazy but i almost want to go back to smoking reef just to get away these dreams, but i’m sure they will stop one of these days
Same for me these dreams , woke up last night after about the 5th time i googled and came here when i got up for work seemed quite real and scary last night so ended up
having a few drags gonna see how i get on tonight
had a massive mental breakdown about 3-4 weeks ago through heavy smoking cannibas from the age of 15 to now am 26 really scrambled me brain thinking crazy nasty shit which isnt me one bit really scared me stopped smoking cannibas there and then i understand it all a bit better now a was thinking from one negative 2 anouther negative and didn’t have a clue wat was going really felt suicidal bottled it up for 3 weeks with out telling any one just constantly battling mind and parnoia finally told work colleges and family that was big weight off shoulders and got some tablets called sertraline which didnt really help just made is feel crap and fart all day long the biggest help has been trying figure out what happened to understand it and reading the bible and having a bit faith as for bad dreams and intense dreams that is nothing compared to what i went through a couple of weeks ago which was by far the worst time of my life really thought i was going crazy . smoking cannibas and doing drugs has been the biggest regret of my life it really messes peoples lives and wastes their money vastes amounts , i am now looking for redemption to purifie my mind body and soul and be a betterman,a goodman. PS i really hate all drugs now with a passion what a load of shit, my worst times for parnoia have been on a morning – dinnertime but the days are getting better one day at a time ,all the best to others PEACE
Another dreamer here. Today was my sixth day without smoking. I typicaly smoke 4-5 days a week, usually just two hits or so from my bong each time. I typically go through about 2 grams a month. So I suppose I’m a fairly regular user, but not a heavy user. Anyway, I’ve been having extremely vivid dreams. I’ve experienced this before when I’ve had to quit for various reasons like being on vacation, not being able to get any, etc. This time I have a chance of being drug tested so I’m abstaining for four weeks. I literally dreaded not being able to smoke at all because of the dream issue. The dreams are incredibly emotional and often frightening. They often involve girls I’ve had feelings for publicly shaming me or acting hateful towards me. Last night’s involved this creepy situation in which a cop pulled me over for driving this monster rental car that was actually some sort of huge suv. He acted like my buddy after I appologized for being lost and got in the car to drive me where I was going. Then at a stop light he started pulling apart the dash board because he figured I might have weed since I kept getting lost. Or maybe I’ve just seen enough episodes of COPS to know that the police always look for drugs. He opened a compartment where I’d hidden my stash but I quickly thought to tell a joke, distracting him enough that he didn’t see the bag. Then he took off his shirt and asked me if I thought he worked out. I’m really happy I woke up at that point because I did not like where that was going! I must say I’m really looking forward to being able to smoke again. I haven’t really missed it, but I love being stoned. I work really long hours and am a competitive athlete, so having a little burn when the day is done is my relaxation. Apparently it also keeps the demons at bay!
Does anyone know how to defend against these dreams? I read on another site that taking melatonin can help alleviate insomnia. I’ve taken the stuff so I know that’s true, but I don’t know if it will do anything about the intense dreams.
OK let’s hope tonight involves me banging out some of these chicks instead of them hating on me!
Well put, sir, well put. I’ll ceratinly make note of that.
I quit one week ago and have been having them too, they can be good but can be freaky… last night for example, can only remember parts of it, but…
There was this girl, and we were at a familiar house. She was pretty hot, not AMAZING but nice, anyway, I know I was going to have sex with her at another venue. She was wearing bakini, all of a sudden she was naked; thought it was a little weird. Anyway, for some reason (I can’t remember why) I picked up a knife, a familiar knife, one I use to use to cut plastic bottles to make bongs with funnily enough. While carrying the knife (there was no real danger or anything but I can’t remember why I had it)… the girl appeared with her face stitched up and then behind her appeared a scary person carrying a BIG knife coming at me. I woke up straight away and didn’t want to go back to sleep. I will be glad when things return to normal.
Glad to see I am not the only one out there. I used to smoke several times a day then had to quit in efforts to get a job. I noticed after the first week my dreams were getting wierd and extremely odd. For instance, in one night I had a dream I was in this huge mansion with my parents and we were considering buying it; however the house was currently being bidded on and the bidder was my best friends mom who is a realator. I woke up thinking it was a real dream almost. I went back to sleep to only dream that my idol soccer player lived in my neighborhood and we were texting each other and hanging out, but he had to move away and I felt a big emotion of depression. Last night was by far my weirdest dream. I dreamt that my dad shot one of my child hood friends infront of me at their old house across the street. I freaked out in my dream and was in a huge bind to call the cops or just forget about it since he was family. In my dream I called the cops on my father and remember seeing him being taken away by cops and I was hoping he wouldnt be mad at me when he got out. I dont know if these mean anything; my dad would never do such a thing lol but I woke up sweating and was actually reluctant to go back to sleep. I am geting tired now so hopefully tonights dreaming will be more pleasant than frightening
the reasoning behind the weird dreaming is because weed prevents you from going into REM sleep, which is where the most vivid dreams occur. when u stop smoking you eventually are able to get into your REM sleeping phase, causing you to experience dreaming at its fullest
i am a heavy smoker (roughly 2oz a month) and recently stopped for job purposes and have noticed more intense dreaming
ive quit for a whole month now. my vivid dreams started a week after i first quit. ive been enjoying it because my dreams arent like dreams! its like i am actually awake! my dreams are so vivid and realistic theyre not weird stuff like talking animals or george clonney turning into a water sprinlker. its more realistic stuff like surviving the appocolypse, being a secrete agent, fighting in gurilla warefare, speed down the hiway running from the cops ect!! my dreams are like a 2nd life to me and its great cuz when i sleep i get to escape from this boring reality called life xD cuz in my reall life, im jobless, have a crappy car, and not much to my name
oh and i forgot to mention, yesterday i dreamed that my brother gave my a dip of grizzly wintogreen tobacco. i quit dipping 2 years ago but i never forgot the taste, and in my dream i could taste it! in the dream it was gross cuz i dont like dip anymore and when i walked to the sink to spit it out and throw up, i woke up from my dream and noticed i had to halk up a loogy . i guess my brain was tellin me i had to spit by giving me that dream lol
I am 15, and i normally smoke everyday. however, for the past year i have stopping every 3rd week so that i could enjoy these dreams. I have never had an unpleasant one and they have all been very strange, realistic, and i always woke up extremely happy. so this morning when i wokeup i remembered my entire dream vividly and wrote it down on my phone. after a copy and paste, here you go:
“new girl in school. her mom wont let her work so she has to sneak around to do work. she is really cute and i just started talking to her more. somehow i really like her and i keep meaning to tell her that im here for her but i cant because i wake up. i like how shes so quiet and shy and i wanna talk to her more. i remember talking to her when i was outside the basement window and she was laying inside with the window open and we were talking. im going to read this before bed amd hopefully i will have another dream about her. i know i have seen her before or met her in another dream but i cant remember. i want to get to know her in my dreams because i almost feel like it was an alternate world or life i was living.”
sorry for the bad spelling, i was half asleep haha. but yeah i hope some people see this and realize that stopping for a week every once in a while accually makes you happier than if you smoked and gives you these weird trippy experiences. but make sure you smoke alot as soon as the dreams start to fade off!
Yeah! I knew it had to be a common thing! Was talking to a good friend of mine. Who had quit smoking as well. I felt it was strange since I too was having strange vivid crazy dreams! I’m on week 3 and really ready to put it behind me. It’s time to grow up my kids are getting older. I have to be a better role model for them. Lead by example. Not by telling them how to live, but by showing them. My dream last night, my life with as if it was a reality show but, 10 * the intensity! As if all eyes, were on us! It was so crazy! Even Obama had tweeted about it. Everyone was buzzing about. It was more like a a big play! But, everyone could veiw it as if was on t v! Lol! I can’t make this stuff up!!! Don’t really remember having bad dreams, just strange vivid crazy dreams! For the most part I remember! Seems to be more tired better rested. Its crazy how I let the drug take over me! Keep encouraging my significant other to make the same kind of change but no luck as of yet. It doesn’t matter though I’m doing this for me and my family. Much ♥ every one! Hope everyone keeps dreaming and pushing for greatness!
Day 3 that I have not smoked because of a horrible sinus infection…I literally just woke up again from some crazy ass dream. My dreams seem to be pretty violent and scary.i tend to smoke everyday but only before bed since I just want a good nights rest and it’s a good time to unwind after all my shots done for the day.so first night I dreamt that I was being cut alive for a dissecting experiment? The other was that my best friends and I killed a mob boss at his house and I unloaded the clip of my tec 9 on his faceafter we needed to get rid of the evidence. Lol wtf man I’m not even close to being a violent person and I dislike scary movies but lately my dreams have been as freaky. I’m not worried I’m sure they’ll get less intense but wow lol for those of u experiencing lucid dreams i def recommend detoxing and exercise.I def think its the effects of stopping smoking herb but nothing to worry bout.
31, heavy smoking since 16.
Just slacked down the smoke and man did I get some fucked up dreams. Like fighting zombie kittens, and endless machine gun battles with a guy that looks like a cross between Fabio and the evil dude in T-Force.
I felt really bad for the kittens when I woke up, which is even more fucked up.
Am on day two and so determined to quit, the only reason I have smoked it for years is to help me sleep. I just can’t justify the money no longer so I have packed in smoking for 12 days and now no weed for 2 nights. Am worried I just won’t sleep but people r telling me I will prob sleep a lot better is this true?
That shit is true i quit 2 wks ago and have had 6 very vivid deep dreams the last one shook me so bad that it made me wake up and research this shit …everyday smoker for 12 yrs Super smokin!! lol i think more shit needs to be researched about this subject scientifically those who quit be prepared, but if your looking at this site then you prob are havin the same crazy deep vivid dreams, now ima be up all nite trying to figure out what they ment! good luck quitting and maybe one day itll be legal and ppl wont have to go through this shit!
I’ve got you all beat. 51 now, started when I was 12 have always been heavy smoker and always had lots of dreams, smoking or not. After a car accident 8 years ago that fu^%#ed up my back my consumption went way up. I smoked enough to kill an elephant and had nearly an endless supply of very strong weed. After getting downsized with the economy 4 years ago I smoked even more, wake and bake till bed. Recently even while smoking I was starting to have really strange dreams. I’ve had many clairvoyant dreams in the past that came true. But now the dreams rarely make sense. I stopped burning to find a job and am now in week 14 and the dreams just keep coming and getting stronger. I’m having 3-5 a night, the craziest stuff. I’ll sleep 3 hours wake from a dream, sleep one more, dream one more ect,,, almost every time I sleep whether it’s 3 -9 hours or a 5 minute nap I’m having goofy dreams. Dead people I haven’t thought of in many years suddenly appear out of nowhere. It’s been like a crazy cast of people I know or have known. In one I had a dream staring a mechanic I know then the next dream I’m explaining to him about the previous dream I had as if I woke up. Sometimes I dream I smoke and get all mad cause I’ve ruined my clean streak only to wake up in relief realizing it was just a dream. It’s to the point I’m starting to dread going to sleep not knowing if it will be good dreams bad dreams or just crazy senseless dreams. I wish I could just get a good night of sleep. I used to like dreaming when I was younger and they predicted my future. Not anymore. I’m starting to think I’m losing (or lost) my mind.
hey all, just wanted to share that I have been experiencing the same thing…. been smoking heavy for the passed 15 years. (daily) and am on day 5. my dreams consist of rabid dogs attacking eveyone and missiles circling my city then reaching there targets and blowing the shit out of everything. for some reason I am finding myself searching for and smoking heroin which in my dream look like little black balls of shit. (never seen heroin or used before) and I wake up shaking and feeling very wierd. anyone have a solution to this bull shit please help lol.
Just woke up from the most intense dreams I’ve ever had. Had to get up for a cigarette and a cuppa and ended up on here. Only my second night without smoking after about 5 years heavy daily smoking since 16. Took what felt like ages to get to sleep. I must of dreamt for about and hour and half before I woke up in a complete sweat and very scared at what I’d just been dreaming. It felt like I hadn’t slept at all. I was lying very straight on my back, very tensed up and stiff as if I couldn’t move while I was sleeping. It felt like a lifetime. For the first time ever I started dreaming as soon as I fell asleep (usually it’s not till the few hours before I wake up). The dream started with me lying in my bed as I was when I went to sleep. My duvet was pulled back by a poltergeist and things started crashing around my room. I was then flung about my this ghost and I remember myself making a very frightened moaning sound as if crying for help but without properly being able to scream. I then remember telling my girlfriends brother about it and during this conversation I was taken up by this ghost again, moving me around the room. I then remember shaking my head as if to get out of the ghosts hold and it was then a dream within my dream. Many other horrible things came after, including a group of crackheads trying to rape my girlfriend while I was there trying to defend her (I managed to break all of one guys fingers but that didnt stop them). There was even a point where me and my girlfriend were yelling ‘FUCK YOU’ to these group of girls who were just screaming ‘FUCK YOU’ back. I also had loads of things stolen from my house by this IT tutor I’m currently working with (she looked completely different and my actual tutor is a man). There were so many different stages to this dream..like all my worst dreams combined into one.
I’m glad I’ve read all you people’s posts, and has made me feel better about the situation. Gonna try and go back to sleep with a positive mindset and see what comes next…hopefully I don’t end up sleep walking out the house or anything crazy like that. I sleep talk a lot anyway so I can only imagine that’s going to get more intense. As for the dreams, I’m hopeful I’ll be visiting some places of the nicer extremes.
i agree with jayson below me i dont think its necessarily that we dont dream when we smoke rather then we just forget way easier and faster. anyway on my first night not smokin will see what tonight brings
I too experience the crazy, vivid dreams whenever I stop smoking. I actually look forward to them even though occasionally I tend to come across some sinister people/things. If you’ve ever heard of astral projection (OBE), some people claim that is what you are actually doing when you dream, without realizing it. There are people that can induce this state purposefully and have complete control of their experience when in this other “realm”; monks, shamans and such.
Robert Monroe has written some interesting books on the subject and you can find out more at thespiritscience.net. For those who find the dreams unpleasant there are meditative techniques you can do to help keep your experiences more positive. These are essential when learning how to astral project. I’m still learning about all this myself but I find it fascinating. For those who are looking to stay away from the weed for good, I’d recommend learning how to properly meditate. It can be a healthy and rewarding alternative. Bi-neural beats can also be helpful.
i’ve read it before somewhere, that when you smoke your “nighty” joint, and fall asleep, your brain wants too show you the dreams, but your just about too toked too see them. But when you go off, it’s like opening a sink for your dreams, therefor the awesome dreams.. I myselfe quit now and then, while i’m off.. i actually enjoy the dreams, cuz they are so vivid and real!
Last night i dreamed of a girl, (that girl is one hot girl i’ve been “stalking” at the gym lately) and we suddenly were at here apartpent… the next thing i know, we’re in here bed.. the wierd part was when she had this long and weird looking scar from her “downsteirs” up to her tits.. but in the dream, i really didn’t care.. she was still beautiful 🙂 looking forward for tonights sleep!
I cant believe theres so many people suffering with this issue! Im 30 and been smoking weed since early teens so yeah im a long term smoker. I’ve tryed to quit a few times and never had the will power to see it through. The last time I tried I failed but during the time I had stopped I noticed the dreams. Said to my wife about it and she said it was a excuse to start bk up again. Well she can kiss it because all you guys are proof! Anyway I’ve since quit AGAIN and yes im bk with the vivid dreams and im on day 11. They seem to be getting worse. Im on here now at 4am because Michael Myers just stabbed my wife and it scared the crap outa me. Im so tempted to buy a smoke, im getting more n more worried about sleeping! How much longer before I can have a nights sleep without being woke up in a sweat.
We hope your troubled times have come to and end Elv. Stay strong.

i quit spice and weed. my room mate says i was sleeptalking and that i actully replied an answer back . while i was tossing and turning i was halusinating……thats mt roommates take on it.
I decided to quit weed as my new years resolution and it’s been 16 days since I last blazed. I have been having crazy weird dreams in the last week or so that I can actually remember. This never happened while I was smoking. I’m not sure if I simply could never remember my dreams while smoking or if I didn’t dream at all, but it felt as if I just didn’t dream at all. Anyway last night was the weirdest and most thought provoking dream I’ve had so far. I dreamt that I was doing mushrooms with my cousin who I used to smoke with and that I decided to go home to my parents house while high. The crazy thing is that I felt as if I was actually doing mushrooms and felt so high in my dream and even woke up feeling high as fuck for a couple of minutes before I came out of my trance like state. Now reflecting on it I am glad that I am dreaming again as it is the brain’s mechanism for organising and storing information for short and long term memory and I feel like my memory is improving dramatically already. I honestly can’t remember what it feels like to be fit and healthy in the psychological, emotional and physical sense of the word and am looking forward to feeling it again.
A few years back I wrote an article on my blog about the connection between marijuana and dreams (REM sleep). There are definitely some REM suppressing elements involved with cannabis but they quickly subside after a few days, perhaps weeks, of quitting.
Feel free to read it and leave a comment.

my dreams are horrible. i quit smoking because of a bad bronchitis where it has literally become impossible to smoke without getting extreme pain and coughing out the smoke(no fun as almost every smoker knows). the dreams im starting to get do always have either a dark and depressing theme or are extremly violent, so that everytime i wake up, i am depressed and/or confused. i cant wait to smoke again to get this feelings behind me. the last dream involved some wires attached to my brain from behind so i couldnt see, injected by a weird witch like woman trying to mind control me and erasing parts of my memory. the weirdest part was, it was actually painful and i could feel memories getting lost. sick stuff
Had to stop for drug testing purposes. Its been about 3 wks now, but had a dream last night that i woke up after a night of partying to realize i had ruined my clean streak. Knowing that i would be tested in a few days. It scared me and i woke up. I really didnt worry too much though apparently. Cuz i went right back to sleep lol. Just glad that i didnt really ruin my clean streak. Relieved!
I stop smoking a couple weeks ago.. I’m going through the same thing which brought me to this site via googling the effects of quitting and I must say they’ve been weird, some was dark, scary, violent to some being odd like me being in a self serve food place trying to make a taco and every time I put one together it falls apart lol… My point is we have a very common thing that brought us all here and the person MINJ is on point in my opinion about thc and how it supresses the dreams due to the short memory loss… I rarely dreamed when I was smoking, and I was smoking very potent marijuana regularly… So once I stopped these dreams came on strong!! To whomever is reading this you’re not crazy… keep fighting and stay clean…I hope this can help you as all the prior comments made me laugh and realize that its normal… This is a phase that hopefully wont last too long lol… I also read that its this part that makes people relapse because they want to go back to the dream supressed life… Just fight it… I woke up 5:00 am from a nightmare and I came across here.. I’m glad I did… I wish you all peaceful dreams…
With me, it wasn’t THAT i was having crazy dreams, because up to this point i’m still smoking, it was that i realized that I wasn’t having any dreams at all. This troubles me because lately i have been getting into the works of Carl Jung, who places a heavy emphasis on the importance of dreams.
I’m poised to quit here soon simply because it’s taken me this long to realize that i haven’t had a significant dream in the last two years. I’m 23 now and have been smoking, with alternating levels of regularity, since i was 11. I have long been an advocate for the use of marijuana both recreationally and medically, and while i will more than likely always be pro-legalization and medicalization, it’s not worth it to me do give up dreaming which according to Jung, could be the key to self-realization among other things.
Day 1 of my quitting process i had a dream that i was in a mini van at my old sales man job and my boss kept driving thru houses to get to the liquor store. once we got there i was talking this guy that i worked with and he looked like a different person. than he got in a fight with my boss and i was laughing my ass off. our boss left me and my co workers stranded in vallejo at 9 pm and we had to find our way back.
Day 2 I showed to rave by myself and i had to clime a ladder to get to the ticket booth and this girl let me in for free. all of a sudden i ended up in burlingame with this random group of people and there was a kid that looked exactly like me and he was dating this fine chick i wanted. all of a sudden i was on sanbruno ave in a truck eating pizza with smoke on it and i got pissed off that i smoked weed because i was supposed to quit. i woke up and thought that was completely real but i soon realized it was a dream.
I love mary jane but Dmt is a lot more fun when trippin in your brain. one of the wonders of quitting.
Hi i smoke industrial amounts of cannabis and have run out so the crazy dreams started night aftesometimes sexual last nite i dream t of a tiny white rhino pet that turned fera and i had to kick it out the window. Once i spent a whole day in china i dream so actively that i lose weight over nite now i don t particulary enjoy this cos they tend to affect my moood and emtions upon awakening. I m not giving up i love pot but will go from lotsa joints to pipes. Less quantity. I am happy im not alone in this madness cheers
I’m on my 12th day of quitting after 15 years of smoking daily. I dream about all sort of things. They aren’t bad dreams just strange as hell. I dream about stuff that happened the day before and imaginary people I suddenly know.
I wonder if I always had those dreams and just didn’t remember them when I was smoking.
All in all I’m happy I quit, its not as hard as I thought and I do get more stuff done and feel better. I only wish those dreams will go away.
The reason i quit was because I couldn’t control my smoking habit. I would smoke during the day sometimes and it hurts my communication which is important for my day job. If only I could control myself better I would smoke for the rest of my life but now that I know I can’t really control it I’m happy I quit.
lets just see how long I can last and hopefully these strange dreaams will go away soon.
Thanks for the post btw. was my first google when i woke up today 🙂
cheers.
I started smokin everday all day when i was 18. I had to quit because im in the medical field and im about to go pro as an mma fighter. After the first week of not smoking i started having vivid dreams and i could remeber them right when i wake up. I toss more in my sleep and i talk more in my sleep. My friend told me it was REM sleeping and my dreams have only gotten crazier. I love tp dream but they get more and more real as time goes on. I cant return to amoking so what should i do??
Glad I’m not alone here. I have been trying to quit for the past 10 years and it’s tough. 4 months on, 4 months off, or any variation in-between. It is extra tough on me because I’m very hard on myself for marijuana being my only crutch. I don’t drink alcohol, no caffeine, no cigarettes, or any prescription pills, not even Tylenol.
When I am off marijuana, I too get these crazy intense dreams. Sometimes I find myself crying or sobbing for a loved one because I’ll wake up very sad. I hate crying and I rarely cry.
Other times I laugh myself awake, which again is bizarre because the scenario usually isn’t that hilarious to begin with. But it’s always this extreme and emotional.
I would dream about past families, relatives, friends, relationships, enemies, and even flying or talking to animals or anything and everything in between.
Some times, I remember doing marijuana in my dreams and I would be so upset and berate myself for re-lapsing, only to wake up very groggy. I find this interesting because I wonder if this is the extra THC that is stored being release somehow? I would be in bed and trying to remember if I really did smoke?
I would also like to mention that waking up drenched in sweat is also one of the worst feelings to have while quitting and it just sucks. I don’t know how else to put it.
Anyways, it’s day 4 for me and on my uptillionth time quitting. I woke up from a vivid dream as well and it’s 6 am and I can’t sleep. Can’t remember what it was but I thought I would google it and come here. I am enjoying reading the comments and I am glad I am not alone!
I hope one day if marijuana finally becomes legal (Federal Level), then we can finally smoke in peace and not ever have that guilty feeling again! ~Cheers ^_^
As said before, the reason for the intense dreams is your body is no longer relaxed enough to go into a deep REM sleep allowing you to fully relax when you sleep. The upside to the dreams is if you are a writer it gives you great material to use. I have noticed when I don’t have medicine to smoke before bed I remember more of my dreams and even have a harder time even falling asleep. I prefer this medicine over the pills I use to take. At least when I wake up in the morning I am refreshed. Love the information about the dreams, another idea to write about.
Like everyone else here, I have experienced many of the same withdrawal symptoms. It’s been three weeks now since I’ve smoked. I was a heavy smoker, lighting up after my coffee, before I walked the dogs, after I walked the dogs, on my lunch break, before supper, after supper and never a night without out it. Ever. This has gone on for 17 years!! I’m now 40 and decided enough is enough. Hated that knot in my stomach when I was running low. Surprisingly, I’m doing ok without it. But the dreams!!! It’s like a David lynch movie times ten!!! I’m literally exhausted when I wake up, and drenched by the way. I hope this passes soon, but the feeling of accomplishment is rewarding and empowering! Good luck to you all. Figures now that’s its becoming decriminalized and a little more acceptable with the passage of medical marijuana, I decided to kick it. But when you’re ready, you’re ready. Good luck my friends!
Hey Guys, i just recently quit and googled about this subject and it brought me here. I can say ive been dreaming everynight for the past 2 weeks n they r fucking crazy ass dreams lol!!!
I had recently stopped smoking i have been having weird dreams too. My dreams have me smoking with bob marley. Or me fighting superman and winning. I just stopped 3 days ago bc i have a job interviwe i thought u piece was very helpful so thanks
Oh my goodness! Awesome article dude! Thanks, However I am experiencing difficulties with your RSS.
I don’t understand the reason why I cannot subscribe to it. Is there anybody getting similar RSS issues? Anybody who knows the solution can you kindly respond? Thanks!!
Although i have never tested this theory it does explain some of the “out there’ dreams i have had. I just never went as far as to notice if it had been a couple days since smoking. One thing i do notice though is that i don’t remember dreams or dreaming after an induced sleep, i just remember waking up.

Hey fellow quitters, Great to hear of others going through the same experiences as me. I’m 52 and had smoked dope almost daily for 30 years. 5 days ago, I quit because of an upcoming vacation to a place where scoring weed would be too much of a risk. I loved smoking as I would sleep like a baby, never recall my dreams and wake up feeling great. I have no craving for dope, but the broken sleep coupled with very vivid dreams disturbs and exhausts me. I know, eventually I’ll return to a normal sleep pattern, but tonight, I going to try some Xanax to get a good nights sleep. I don’t intend to swap one drug for another worse one, but I haven’t had a good nights sleep for days.
After the vacation, I am determined to stay drug free. Best of luck Guys.
This is the 2nd time I’ve quit smoking marijuana. Ive been a heavy user for 10 years. I dream all the time, regardless of wether I smoke or not. The only difference in the dreams are that they feel more real and are more vivid. From doing some deeper research, the reason why we have these dreams is because when we smoke, our long term and short term memory become dulled. While we sleep, our REM cycle repairs itself by dreaming. Our dreams are a way for the mind to sort out our memories when we are asleep leading to better cognitive functions and better clarity of memory. It’s super interesting!
Who’s the idiot who thinks you don’t get withdrawals from weed, of course you fucking do! Just like other drugs it is addictive, not like heroin addictive and withdrawals but still, after I quit I was constantly tired developed a bad cough, had trouble sleeping and when I could sleep I’d wake up after having terrifying dreams and sweating. To name a few, and I’m not the only person this has happend too, a couple of people I know had simpler symptoms not too mention how jumpy I became, anyway I started again 3 months ago and all that stuff has gone away.
I started cutting back a few days ago to just a couple hits a day (compared to my typical 3 to 4 blunts a day) just for a break to clear my mind out. its only been my first weekend with limits on weed, and last night i had such an uncomfortable realistic dream , i ended up here. my entire neighborhood became insanely ghetto, 500 times ghettoer than it already is. and my childhood friend and i were walking into what we thought was an abandoned apartment building, but turned out to be a gang ruled marijuana candy shop. it had all the contents of my local liquor store, but made with weed! we grabbed some reeses pieces and were heading out the elevator when we were held at gunpoint and given a deadline for when we were gonna be killed for having witnessed their hideout. the rest of the dream was me sitting in my house paranoid as hell waiting for the gang to come kill us while i just kept repeating” its all a dream right? im gonna wake up and im dreaming.. ” but .. damn that shit took forever, left me feeling uneasy the rest of the day. so glad it was just a dream.
I have stopped for only 2 days after a year of smoking daily and I have had the most horrible dreams that I have ever had and they are also very vivid. They are always about my boyfriend of 6 months dumping me. I’ll sleep for about 3 hrs at a time and then wake up in a full body sweat, sometimes crying. Even after only 2 nights of this I am concerned because it starts to make me insecure about my relationship with him even when I am awake. I can understand a little why I am having these intense dreams about this since I have invested so much of my love and time into him and if he were to dump me it would break my heart. But I don’t need my dreams reminding me that he could dump me. I have struggled with depression since I was 15 and these awful dreams seem to be making me relapse. I don’t want to be dependant on weed to sleep but it seems to be the only cure for my depression and my nightmares. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should try instead of smoking?
I also stopped smoking about 3 weeks ago… Here come the crazy, so real it’s scary dreams… No more like knightmares… I no for a fact it’s because I stopped smoking.. In my dream it always includes people in my past that have done me wrong.. A couple of years ago I stopped smoking to start dating a girl that didn’t smoke and she wasn’t in the dreams.. I was with her for 4 1/2 years I had to break up with her.. It’s been 3 weeks now not smoking cause I’m sure she’s going to call my work ” like a rat” and try to make me loose my job by telling them I’m smoking… I just woke up from my first dream since breaking up with her and the dream was all about her.. In the dream I was trapped, surrounded by people from my past supporting her as she messed with me… In the dreams I’m always trapped stuck in a place where there is no way out.. Like I said, I have experienced all this before and I went weeks of intense scary dreams.. In these dreams every night is like a continuation of the one I had just the night before.. Very long and drawn out like a big long bad story of my life.. Man I don’t know how else to deal with this but to smoke again.. If anyone out there has a remedy to solve this problem instead of going back to smoking?? Please let me know!!! This sucks soooo bad!!!
I woke up this morning after day 7 of quitting weed . I have smoked for twenty two years . I had to quit for financial reasons and to get a good job. Besides the Hugh anxiety and crying I have experienced the most terrible dreams . I was in a concentration camp and u watched people be gassed I was next then I was stabbed and shoved off a building . My kids trapped in a car oh god I need ambien . I never thought this would be an issue . But I soon realized I would smile to pass out every night and never had a dream . Now all the terror inside of me is literally bleeding out my brain. I am having a harder time with these scary dreams them with the cravings oh god I hope it stops soon
Ok so im on day 8 and am scared to sleep the dreams i am having are so horrible. i guess that if you suffer from any mental issues your subconscious targets theses areas and turns them into what you think at the time as reality. I have been dreaming about my partner dying and friends turning against me…. i cant wait for hem to stop!!!!! good luck to those who want to quit. im hoping these dreams will subside soon.
Do not give up when you’re feeling down. The enemy will hit you when you least expect it. Do not be naive and think just because the first day wasn’t bad and day two was tolerable that it’s all downhill and your home free. Stick to your guns.
So i’m 15 and 3 months ago from now, i tried an edible which really fucked me up. Well, i promised myself to never try weed again or any other type of drug. So far, i am very proud of myself even though i’m not a smoker. However, the week after i tried an edible, i’ve been getting some deep vivid dreams. I consider them nightmares. And till’ this day, i still get them. I do not get them every day but it is most of the time. Also, during the day, I get like “flashbacks”. I don’t know whether it’s old dreams from my childhood or memories. As you can see, it fucked me up. After all, i’m very happy that i’m not the only one. Anyways, is this part of the “quitting” cycle or will it always be like this? I’m trying to avoid into getting in that church shit. By the way, for those people who have commented from a long time ago, how are ya’ll doing? Did the dreams stop? or Did you went back to smoking?
My advice, don’t do drugs and stay active.
If you’d like to contact me for anything, simply reply & i’ll give you my contact info.

Did Justin Bieber smoke all your weed? don’t let that little guy smoke all your weed buddy!
I normally have intense dreams even when smoking, but the last few days have been something else, I cut a guys head of with a chainsaw last night and I woke up frightened at how graphic it was. Other nights my dreams have been fantastic, I attribute the type of dream to how your feeling when you go to sleep subconsciously, it’s difficult for even the most self-anytical person to truly know how they’re feeling.
A scientific explanation is that when you are consistently putting a substance into your body that inhibits the production of certain neurotransmitters, namely Serotonin, and then suddenly stop putting this substance in your body then there will be a re-balancing period where your body tries to use the excess Serotonin – therefore more Serotonin is used up in dreaming which enhances the vividness and memory of these dreams. To summarise I think the excess Serotonin just magnifies the dream that would normally be present, it doesn’t make your dreams good or bad but just more intense.
Im 35 year old female and have smoked weed regularly since i was around 21, in the last ten years i have smoked everyday after work as i’ve always been a light sleeper and found this the best way to combat the issue and relax. However in the last 5 years I have stopped at least three different times, each for various lengths, from weeks to months but mainly because I was traveling overseas or away on holiday with my family. Each time including right now (planning not to start again as home from holiday two weeks ago) I experience horrific nightmares which feel like they last all night ,currently its been three weeks and they have not gone away. I am so exhausted…… I’m sure in time they will stop in time but i don’t look forward to sleeping like it seems some people do, its not fun for me, more disturbing.
It’s true this my second go round from stop smoking weed, and it’s happe again. As soon as I go back to sleep I dream a totally different seems like violent and weird dreams this is soely contributed to not smoking anymore!! So I goggled it and it’s true it happen to others . Well back to sleep and more freaky dreams I hope it stops tho! I don’t like it.
35/m vaped about 5 pulls from da Vinci daily for 6 months. Quit 2 days ago just to get clear head back and study some work related material to better myself. Last night had a crazy dream. Was flying in a bus with my wife and others. We were over some foreign land, turns out Romania because we crash landed there. I texted home and told family what happened and all of a sudden my older bro showed up looking for me. I hugged him so hard and was crying worse than I ever did before and I never cry. I couldn’t talk just sob. I woke up bear hugging my pillow and realized it was a dream but started to get teary telling my wife who was not very concerned or impressed and was writing it off as a weird dream but to me to was deep and emotional and real. I’m not very close to my older brother like I was when I was younger. We are actually planning a snowmobile trip together soon.. maybe it’s my way of realizing how precious life and relationships are. I know that if anyone were to show up at that hotel to find and protect me it would be him.
Ok, wow, guess I’m not crazy, lol I’m 48
longtime smoker, stopped 3 weeks ago or so and on day 4 or 5 started dreamin again. Most of them have been from my past, back in school, back in cars i used to have, people i used to know. Old jobs, old bosses and of course old enemies. Wake up almost everynight at least once from some sort of confrontation with someone or something. Running scared, seeing people die etc..Never know whats in store for me one night to the next.
Just hope they stop soon, or at least slow down,
haven’t had a good nights rest in a while.
Glad to see I’m not alone
This is an old topic I see, but people have still been posting get so I figured I’d put my two cents in. I’m on day 13 and about to sleep in a few minutes here. Like most everyone else, I’ve had some pretty vivid dreams, some I was fearing for my life, some just seem as an adventure even though they were scary. Last night I had a dream I was going to be going to prison for 12 years+ I freaked out so bad I tried to convince some guy I knew in high school to knock out this parole officer who was there to take us in so we could escape instead of doing time, he had 6 years at least. The high school guy I’m talking about I haven’t thought about or seen in months so it was weird for him to pop up.
Long story short, I find my dreams to be exciting. Sure I’m a little terrified and I wake up in sweats, but what’s life without a little fear? I even had a dream about “god” a few days back and I remember saying to myself, you can’t be real because I’m an atheist and I know better than to see this magic bullshit going on. Again, scared me, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t somewhat enjoy the ride. Now it’s time for me to go ride the terror train. I’d advise those who read this to enjoy there’s as well.
ive been having weird dreams since i stop smoking. Day4: Last night a dreamt that i was with my grandma (she passed away a few years ago) in a nursing home. She was telling me that she was annoyed by her neighbor snoring and that she wanted to be changed to another room where she could be alone, so when i went to look for a nurse and came back she was laying down next to the other old lady(the same bed) my friend and i carried her back to her bed, my friend carried her from the legs and i carried her from the torso. Suddenly, she died in my arms. Day 5: Was at a friends house, there was a really attractive girl i use to go to school with. In this dream she had an amazing body almost like a victoria secret model. I remember being locked in the same room behind a refrigerator we were kissing and i was touching her amazing body. I wish i had more dreams like these intead of day 4 type of dreams lol
I quit smoking weed after 3 weeks, and started, having, panicked, and anxiety attacks, vivid dreams, muscle jumping, and severe insomnia! I should’ve just kept going! I was dealing with alcohol withdrawal too! Now I smoke at note time only like two to three hits! Would you say if I quit now, would I go through the withdrawal phases again?
I’ve had the crazies dreams also. It’s my 10th day sober and I started getting these crazy dreams. It started the 3rd night but the dreams get worse and worse. if I told anyone what my dreams were they would think I’m crazy. It’s nothing nasty or brutal just extremely weird like I’m in a psychedelic trip. I’m an Atheist and haven’t had any hindu influences but I dream about their gods, cows being milked, rituals then flying dinosaurs. It just bothers me and it also makes me think.
To everyone who says that marijuanna withdrawl doesn’t exist because it’s not physically addictive, seriously, shut up. You’re an idiot. Yeah, ok, it’s not physically addictive like heroin or alcohol but it does interact with receptors in your brain, so when you stop you can experience withdrawal. Some people may not notice it at all. Some people will be fucking miserable. It depends one your own body chemistry and how heavy of a smoker you are. I am a pretty serious stoner. I have smoked pot every day, multiple times a day for about 8 years now. I actually still usually remember my dreams, more than other stoners I know and I think it’s because even from an early age I would reflect on my dreams upon waking up and tell someone about it. So my dreams never really went away even with being a heavy smoker. But about five days ago I quit so that I can pass a drug test in a few weeks and my dreams are BONKERS. Like so freaking intense. So vivid. Not nightmares though. Just weird. One was about me eating that salsa con queso from the jar, and it tasted metallic and off and then I scooped some out and saw the entire thing was moldy. But I could seriously TASTE in my dream. Another was about a beautiful ocean in a glass box. Crazy stuff. Definitely makes quitting kinda enjoyable. Though I’d rather just enjoy a bowl! Ha. I’ll see myself out.
smoked pot about 355/365 days this past year, decided to take a little break while I got the stomach flu, I’m on day 5 now, and on day 3 I noticed I was dreaming, but the dreams that I was having we’re so realstic…. I would even wake up from them in a panic, fall back asleep, then dream a complelty different dream! It is quite the experience , and I am glad that I have gave it a rest for this long, I’m excited to keep having these dreams, I thought I was the only one who was experiencing this. glad I am not.
I use to ask all the pot heads if they had dreams. Of course they dont remember any of them. Because i also realized that i never had dreams when i use to smoke. Now i havent smoked for 3 months, and my dreams are awesome. So awesome i dont miss Weed anymore. I go to bed happy and waiting what the next adventure will be like in my dreams.
I have been off weed for about two months now and I too have been having more vivid dreams, sexual, strange, depressing, and absolutely terrifying. I also find myself dreaming of smoking weed or looking for a way to smoke weed quite frequently in almost every dream. I don’t really miss not smoking weed except while I am asleep. Have others found this to be true, dreaming of weed often? Does it ever go away?

This article explains why we dream after not smoking weed . . pretty informative.
This has been an interesting read for me from top to bottom. Seriously. I have been off dope for 14days. now. I have quit smoking several times, I must admit. I have also sold it to friends for about a year. So I have been smoking heavily for the past year. The cops busted me and some friends in the house I used to sell in while we were smoking and rolling more joints for the market. Some haters had us set up. we had to bribe ourselves out of the police cells only to find out later that one of the cops in the frenzy had stolen a phone belonging to one of the customers I got arrested with on that day. We reported the case of the stolen phone at the same police station and they offered to look into the matter. To date we haven’t received any news from the cops who busted us regarding the phone that we reported stolen. The dreams started a week ago. Today’s nightmare awoke me at 4:50am. In the dream I found myself lying in the middle Of a highway unable to move. There was shooting between cops and a chopper at the time it was so weird since the cops seemed familiar from the station I was arrested at so after the gunfire ceased I asked one of the cops about the phone that they stole and then he told me they found it… Then I woke up. Reading other people’s experiences is entertaining and I think that it’s one of the things keeping me busy and replacing the old smoking habit.
A 40 year toker here and I have quit many times throughout the duration , sometimes for months up to a year or so but I always had crazy dreams after quitting like many of you talk about, recently after quitting I had a dream that I was awake but my soul floated out of my body and I drifted upstairs and saw my wife and puppy’s in the bed sleeping and then drifted back down into my body,, god it was so real and freaked me out some . After that I started having terrible nightmares for about 3 nights in a row and was totally exhausted to the point I didn’t want to sleep but I went to sleep for the last few nights without the nightmares only crazy little episodes ,, this will subside with time but I hate whats been happening and thinking about just quitting all together .. I think the higher quality these days is causing this to be worse … glad to know im not all by myself in this madness
One important way to continue your success with quitting, is to do things that will solidify your decision not to get high anymore. It is time to get rid of all paraphernalia!
Throw out lighters, bongs, one hitters, roach clips, ect.
Review your list of reasons to quit.
Schedule an appointment to have your teeth cleaned.
Use your money you are saving to buy yourself a new CD or movie.
You may feel dizzy or nauseated, so focus on taking care of yourself. Take aspirin, go for a walk, or relax in a hot bath.

My dreams are so intense! I smoked every day, multiple times a day for 10 years. About a week after I quit, I started to dream. I’m on day 18 of quitting, and the last 3 nights have been really intense. I tend to dream about the loss I’ve had in my life- mostly people or old jobs. I’m wondering when they will stop- I really dread going to bed because of them. I’m surprised I haven’t had any dreams where I’m smoking weed though like I read tons of other people have. Looking forward to having one of those instead!
I’ve been a daily continuous smoker for the last 12 years, I wanted to quite for a while to be “more here” for my family and more in the moment, and not so foggy headed, but had to make it past the first 2 days of withdrawals (I would get stressed out at my family and easily lose my temper) but once I made it past 2 days I was fine. Then I started having extremely vivid dreams. Several dreams each night many times, and able to recall many of the details. Besides the dreams I’ve noticed MUCH more brain power return, like I’m on some super herbal brain supplements, I love my greatly enhanced short term memory and being more clear headed, and more in control of my emotions and of stressful situations, without having to smoke every time something stressful happens. LOTS of brain power now.
One thing I really enjoyed was getting to see my brother again (he died 8 years ago, we were extremely close), it was really emotionally pleasing after waking up, like feeling like I saw him in real life. His face was SO vivid, like incredible detail, SO realistic, was really nice getting to see him again, he’s been in several of my dreams so far. In another dream my wife and I were driving home at sunrise, and I remember seeing the sun SO vividly, it was SO realistic, maybe even more realistic than real life, seeing the morning sun rays pierce through our car’s front window onto our faces.
I look forward to more vivid dreams tonight, some have gotten close to being scary or creepy, but so far so goooood!
